The Charismatic Lad from Britain: Sir Richard Branson has a bit to say about Content Marketing
It could be said that content marketing contributes to the entrepreneur, Richard Branson’s success. It all started in 1970 when he created Virgin Records. Today his portfolio has robustly expanded. His holdings are as diversified as it gets with everything from an airline company (Virgin Atlantic) to a mobile phone company (Virgin Mobile).
He has created more than a brand, or a company, or even an empire. This man has created a lifestyle. Conveniently, the brand Virgin offers products in almost every aspect of life, permitting it to truly be part of your life if you so choose.
One may ask how do you build a brand, let alone a lifestyle?
1. Passion and Perseverance
By looking at a company’s Facebook page or by reading their latest blog post you can immediately tell if they are passionate about what they are marketing. When looking at any social media platform that Richard Branson has touched it is obvious he is avidly passionate about all of his companies. His new book titled “Screw Business as Usual” is just another example of how his straightforward approach helps market his companies. The language he uses when speaking about his latest venture, Virgin Pure you can almost hear his cheery English accent speaking about this fabulous new product. His quote tells it all, “I love businesses that help to improve our way of life and Virgin Pure’s T7 does just that by encouraging people to drink more water in an efficient way….”. Quotes from the company’s perspective are useful because they portray a clear idea of what is being marketed from the source.
Branson puts the outmost value on customer experience. This is why he makes sure he stays in touch with his consumers on all social media platforms. He gets to know his consumers by constantly imposing questions to better get to know their likes and dislikes. For instance, on the Mobile Live Facebook page he posed the question “McDonald’s or Burger King?”. Unsurprisingly, 244 people responded to the post. Sometimes these questions are irrelevant to his products. On the other hand, they start a dialogue about small things and he builds a relationship, which comes in handy when he does need feedback on newly launched products. Next time you are wondering what your consumers are like ask them a question and see what their response is.
3. Staying Organized
Whether you have hundreds of companies offering different products like Richard Branson or just a few it is important to be organized when it comes to marketing on social media platforms. For instance using #hashtags in order to categorize your tweets and gain attention from similar avenues is a helpful hint used by Branson. Also creating separate pages in your blog about new developments and including them in a tweet or post is a fast and savvy marketing tool. Making sure topics are clumped in the right groups helps viewers to find what they are searching for efficiently.
4. Logo
What do you think of when you hear Virgin Atlantic? Large, Red and white writing on a plane? Probably. This logo has stayed consistent and carried over to his other ventures, only varying by a few words. Think about this when designing your next logo.
Innovation! Even though his products differ from each other he spins it in a way to make them all connected an enables them to help each other succeed. Think about it Virgin Wine can be served on Virgin Atlantic flights. Think about it, this something you can do with what you are trying to market?
